Apocalypse Hal - It's Tooltime

The humble Swiss army knife has come a long way.

My mum would always insist that whatever pocket knife I got as a kid, it had to have "one of these pointy things for getting stones out of horse's hooves". A bit old school but maybe Rick Grimes would have found one useful if his horse didn't get devoured by zombies so quickly.

Next week it's celebrity bitches - of the canine kind.

Friday thought - Attack of the Bunnies!!

At this time of year we all get excited as the Easter Bunny makes his rounds delivering copious amounts of delicious chocolate.  Bunnies of course are highly regarded here at BZF and we felt it was time that these cute little creatures received some well deserved attention.

I came across a 1972 horror flick called Night of the Lepus starring none other than Psycho’s Janet Leigh.  This hot mess of film takes our cuddly little friends and turns them into giant mutated roaring (yes roaring) killing machines!  Impressed?  Don’t be, every aspect of this film is so appalling that it almost becomes enjoyable.  These genetically modified blood soaked Bunnies attack anything that moves from small children, horses, dogs and trucks.  But what really takes the cake is when a human is being mauled by these ravenous ‘monsters’ it is quite clearly a human in a furry suit delivering a backhand to the face or scratching their chest cavity open.

Best viewed after a good wine or 7, Night of the Lepus is memorable for all the wrong reasons and is screaming for a Hollywood do-over, roaring Bunnies anyone?

Who is Cheryl the Zombie?

Greetings friends, it is with great pride that I introduce Cheryl the Zombie!  Who is she you may ask??  Last year for Christmas I decided to bless my colleagues with a mixed CD full of jumping party tracks for the holiday season, cheesy I know but that’s me!
With BZF as my inspiration I introduced a host for the compilation and thus Cheryl the Zombie was born!  Cheryl is busy undergoing her final makeover, with final touch ups from Mr Rimsky and trusted tips from Mrs K.  So before her grand unveiling, let me slide you some tasty tid-bits about this undead force of nature.
Despite being a zombie Cheryl likes to rock out in style, even if it’s with a second hand $9 K-Mart slip dress that she pulled out of a dumpster.  Her rotting flesh is no reason not to keep her high end make-up bag stocked with Maybelline and Chanel to maintain her glamorous appearance.  She loves spinning her favourite club bangers at any trendy night spot whether the venue is packed with fellow zombies or terrified survivors – she always likes to party hard!
Stay tuned for the big reveal when you get to meet the new Kim Kardashian of the zombie world as she shares her compilation CD’s (that’s right, volume 3 is almost ready to drop) with BZF fans across the world!!

Apocalyse Hal - The Hooligan Bar

Having the right tools is critical when it's you against the world. So this week we check out a useful tool the professionals use.

My mum found a mini version of the Hooligan bar at her local hardware store. Being lighter it's perfect for seniors but hefty enough to handle any zombies that get too close. Go mum!

Where it all began.....

It’s clear to see that zombies are proving to be more than a passing craze and this splat-tastic sub genre is comfortably standing on its own two rotting legs.  But when did our obsession with the humble zombie begin?  Who do we have to thank for this phenomenon?  You guessed it, the Zombie Godfather himself Mr George A Romero.

Now I know many of you have seen countless incarnations of zombie movies from ‘Zombie Strippers’ to ‘Stag Night of the Dead’ – some worth seeing and some you should avoid like Tori Spellings plastic surgeon.  The Night of the Living Dead, released way back in 1968 was ground breaking for its time.  Heavily criticised for its explicit content, four sequels have since been released sprawling over five decades and at the same time has inspired a generation of film makers to add in their own twist.

If you haven’t already, I would recommend hunting down Romero’s dead collection.  There is always a point to be made or subliminal social commentary weaved into the background of his films.  Amazon UK has a boxset available but it is missing the latest entry Survival of the Dead, or you can rent them out from your local dvd store.    Either way it’s a treat to see where all the madness began!

Ah, zombies! The classic cannon fodder of a good horror movie. But is killing zombies in real life all it's cracked up to be?

Mega Friday thought! Welcome to the BZF bunker

I thought it was time to give you a proper introduction to the team, so here goes:
Mrs K, the creator and Editor in Chief of ‘For the love of bunnies, zombies and frocks’ has always had an affinity with dark and strange. There was that witchcraft stint in her teens, followed by a vampire obsession that carried her well into her early 30’s. One cold rainy weekend she discovered The Walking Dead and a new obsession was born. The blog was the result from her incessant need to talk all things zombie such as what would she wear in the the coming of the  zombie apocalypse, what would she do about regrowth, what shoes to pack in the event of an evacuation etc.. She decided that she needed an outlet for all these thoughts rather than annoying her colleagues. When she is not blogging or thinking about surviving  without sacrifice to style she can be found online shopping for frocks, reading, ‘thinking’ about baking and planning her next tattoo. Mrs K started her career in opertaions but about 7 years ago stumbled into the world of communications and a new career path was put in motion. She is now trying to forge her way in the world as a communications professional. She lives in a cozy apartment with her husband and Zeus the Bengal kitten.

Mr Vitamin G, is BZF’s Pop Culture Guru, here to bring you all things entertainment!  In his early teens he became a huge fan of horror movies and developed a soft spot for B movies.  His daily dietary requirements include moderate servings of trash TV, bass heavy music, Youtube funnies (you forgot the blueberries is his fav) and spending way too much time looking up useless information on Wikipedia.  He is scared of spiders and Jackie Stallone (seriously google images on that stat) and loves keeping fit (just in case he has to outrun a horde).  Mr Vitamin G is a Communications graduate, Engaged as of 2012, proud uncle of 5 and most importantly a BZF blogger!!

MrRimsky  is BZF’s Artist in Residence is a frustrated artist who yearns to paint as good as Raphael (or any of the other Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for that matter). He has had a lifelong passion for comics (of the non superhero kind) and fantasy art (of the naked woman with big butts kind). He is happy to hack out anything that interests him using a smorgasbord of styles, techniques and influences. He could be pushing artistic boundaries or he could be an idiot. Oh and he prefers his zombies to be of the old school, shuffling, brain craving kind.Mr Rimsky completed an associate diploma in graphic design way back when floppy disks were cutting edge technology. His varied employment has included biologist, patent examiner, publication manager and general dog's body. Currently residing in Canberra were he juggles a full time job, a family and his artistic ambitions.  He is lousy at juggling.  And he bites off more than he can chew.

Miss Sugar $ Spice is BZF’s Guide to Gourmet Cuisine during the zombie apocalypse, and all things nice, and the newest member of the team. She is an avid traveller and aspiring writer. She will be sharing her best culinary secrets to prove that you don't need to sacrifice good taste even when the end is nigh. She lives with her finance and when not writing, travelling or researching food ideas for the apocalypse she can be found drinking a few  ciders and belting out karaoke tunes in her lounge room. Her motto is ‘Eat well, don't get eaten’.

So that is us, so follow the blog and join us in the BZF bunker to survive the impending doom in style. Oh and don’t get bit!!

Get Infected!

Hello friends, I am very excited this week to bring your attention to a new slice of terror in a world ravaged by zombies!  Infected is an ebook that literally makes you the star of the show by allowing the reader to make decisions which alter how the story plays out.

Author James Schannep has obviously been inspired by the ‘choose your own adventure’ books (remember those?) and has taken it to a whole new level by adding in the survival element with a strategic twist.   No leaf has been left unturned as there are a whopping 50 possible endings as you attempt to survive the zombie apocalypse!

I don’t know about you BZF fans, but this inclusive take on the genre sounds like a plague full of fun, will you dare to enter the world of Infected?  Check out the trailer below!!
